Why a certificate?

The Graduate Certificate in Pavement Analysis and Design and Graduate Certificate in Pavement Materials, offered through the Department of Civil Engineering, are available to both degree and non-degree-seeking students. These programs are perfect for those interested in continuing their education but not yet ready to commit to a full master's degree. Graduates of the program will have advanced knowledge in asphalt materials, pavement evaluation, design, and construction.

You are eligible to apply if...

You hold a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (or equivalent) from an institution of recognized standing. A GPA of 3.0/4.0 or higher in the last 60 semester hours is required, though exceptions may be made for those with significant experience in the field.

Select one of the following areas of study:

Pavement Analysis and Design

  • Required: CIVL 6810/6816 and CIVL 7820/7826
  • Choose two electives from:
    • CIVL 6820/6826
    • CIVL 7870/7876

    • CIVL 6340/6346
    • CIVL 6970/6976
    • CIVL 7390/7396
    • CIVL 7970/7976

Pavement Materials

  • Required: CIVL 6820/6826 and CIVL 7870/7876
  • Choose two electives from:
    • CIVL 6810/6816
    • CIVL 7820/7826
    • CIVL 6830/6836
    • CIVL 7840/7846
    • CIVL 7860/7866
    • CIVL 6630/6636
    • CIVL 6970/6976
    • CIVL 7970/7976

What can you expect?

  • Applied knowledge in areas specific to career goals in pavement engineering.
  • Skills to interpret scientific literature related to pavements and materials.
  • Experience communicating scientific and technical concepts in written formats.

All credits earned may be applied toward a master's degree should you choose to continue your education.
