Applicants must have a minimum of 3 months' work experience in current classification and hold a current Radiation Safety certification to register for this course.

Overview

This one-and-a-half-day course consists of classroom instruction.  The objective is to give entry-level technicians a basic understanding of asphalt paving projects with limited coverage specifications, calculations, and best practices for quality pavements. Topics covered include:

  • Basic road construction safety, plan reading
  • Asphalt paving best practices
  • Importance of density
  • Identification and causes of segregation
  • Use of nuclear (or non-nuclear) density gauge

Completion of the Radiation Safety course is a prerequisite.

Fees, Refunds & Deadline

Applicants must have a minimum of 3 months' work experience in current classification and hold a current Radiation Safety certification to register for this course.

Registration fee: $550/student
Written retake fee: $175/student

Participants are responsible for housing, food, and transportation. Registration fees must be paid at the time of registration. Registration closes two weeks before the course start date or when the class is full—whichever comes first.

Cancellations received at least two weeks in advance will be refunded in full. No refunds will be issued after that date, though participant substitutions are welcome.
